New additions to the APL Team: apprenticeship start for Luca and Dean

On August 1, 2025, we welcomed two new faces to the APL family:
Luca has started his apprenticeship in office management, while Dean is joining us as a IT specialist.

Their first day on the job was our Welcome Day, which began with a safety briefing and an official welcome by our management team (Dr. Zimmermann and Cornelia Mast), who warmly greeted our new colleagues.

Luca and Dean were accompanied by our experienced trainees, Lara and Nina. Under the motto “from trainees for trainees,” they gave the newcomers an initial insight into APL’s processes and structures. This allowed Luca and Dean to not only get to know the company better, but also gather valuable information for a successful start.

We’re very much looking forward to working with Luca and Dean and wish them an exciting and successful start to their careers at APL!

Refreshment for all sites

In July, our employees were treated to a refreshing surprise: despite the rather changeable weather, an ice cream truck or delivery brought a touch of summer to all our locations.

Each colleague received an ice cream as a thank-you for their daily dedication and commitment across all departments. The campaign was not only a welcome way to cool down, but also a great opportunity for collegial exchange and a shared break.

Apprentice Excursion to the Mercedes-Benz Plant in Sindelfingen: Learning Outside the Workplace

On Tuesday, our apprentices and their trainers enjoyed an exciting day trip to the Mercedes-Benz plant in Sindelfingen. The event aimed to broaden their horizons, provide insight into industrial processes, and foster team bonding.

The group left Landau early in the morning before receiving a warm welcome at the plant’s customer center. After a brief introduction and cinematic overview of the 3 km² site, the guided tour of the impressive production facility began.

During the tour, our trainees gained exciting insights into production processes, modern technologies, and the history of one of Germany’s most traditional automotive locations. They were particularly impressed by how different production steps, from bodywork to final assembly, are precisely interlinked.

The day concluded with lunch, which provided a welcome opportunity to exchange and reflect on impressions.

These types of experiences provide our junior employees with professional insights and strengthen team spirit during training. Many thanks to everyone involved in organizing and carrying out this thoroughly successful excursion!

APL summer party: community, enjoyment and lots of sunshine

This year’s summer party took place on Friday, June 27, 2025, on Handkeesplatz in Lustadt, with bright sunshine and a great atmosphere. Around 1,200 guests, including employees and their families, joined us for an unforgettable evening full of good conversation, delicious food, and a lively atmosphere.

There were numerous highlights for the children: Various bouncy castles as well as the popular crate climbing, which was lovingly supervised by the THW.

Many regional associations provided catering, with a wide variety of culinary delights and a lot of passion.

A big thank you to everyone who made this festival possible, especially Ms. Kloos from Handkeesplatz and all the helpers behind the scenes.

We are already looking forward to next time!

Company Run 2025

On Thursday, May 15, 2025, we put on our running shoes and got going!

Our #APLTeam was represented at this year’s “Firmenlauf Südpfalz” with an impressive 146 runners, both in person in Landau and virtually from our other locations.

With lots of energy, team spirit, and plenty of passion and drive, we conquered the 5.3-kilometer course around the old exhibition center together. The focus was not just on speed, but also on togetherness, exercise, and having fun.

Whether at the starting line in Landau in an APL shirt or digitally via the app, the feeling of being part of a strong team was palpable.

After the race, we enjoyed a relaxed evening at the after-run party. With music, cool drinks, and good food, we laughed, celebrated, and toasted to our great team performance.

We would like to thank all the participants, cheerleaders, and organizers. You made this day a special experience, and we’re already looking forward to next year!

Drives of the future – commitment to education and innovation

The future of mobility begins today and is created where industry, science and education come together. That is why we are actively involved in the promotion of young talent!

At the end of January, a project meeting took place at Kant-Gymnasium Karlsruhe with our colleagues from APL Mathias Braun and Niklas Schreiner as well as representatives of the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (KIT), Dr. Iris Hansjosten and the teachers Dr. Beatrix Bold and Stefan Burgemeister. Mr. Röhrauer (Deputy Headmaster) and Mr. Fröschl (MINT-EC Coordinator) also attended the meeting.

Our joint project “Drives of the future” went into the next round! A fuel cell model vehicle with test bench, financed by the KIT, serves the students as a practical experimental field for sustainable drive technologies.

Our goal:

  • To inspire young talent for innovative mobility technologies
  • Provide practical insights into engineering issues
  • Strengthen the bridge between school, university and industry

With our expertise in the development of drive systems of the future, we not only want to drive technologies forward, but also awaken the spirit of research in the next generation. A big thank you to everyone involved for this inspiring collaboration!

Refreshing time out!

On Friday afternoon, the ice cream truck came to our main location in Landau
– just the right thing in these temperatures!

Of course, the APL team didn’t miss the opportunity and enjoyed a total of 544 scoops of ice cream. It was the perfect way to cool down and a great opportunity to take a little time out together.

Our other locations can also look forward to a refreshing cool-down in the coming days to take a little time out in the current temperatures.

Project meeting “Drives of the future” at KIT

How do we awaken enthusiasm for technical contexts and engineering issues in young people? And how do we manage to utilise synergies between school, university and industry in order to offer career guidance at the same time?

Together, employees from APL, KIT and schools have developed innovative ideas on how this can be achieved at the interface between engineering and schools.

The focus is on a fuel cell model vehicle with a test bench that can be used in various settings in the school and study subject of science and technology (NwT) in Baden-Württemberg. In this way, we want to promote long-term interest in science and technology and engineering among schoolchildren and students.

An exciting project with real added value for the education of the future!
