How do we awaken enthusiasm for technical contexts and engineering issues in young people? And how do we manage to utilise synergies between school, university and industry in order to offer career guidance at the same time?
Together, employees from APL, KIT and schools have developed innovative ideas on how this can be achieved at the interface between engineering and schools.
The focus is on a fuel cell model vehicle with a test bench that can be used in various settings in the school and study subject of science and technology (NwT) in Baden-Württemberg. In this way, we want to promote long-term interest in science and technology and engineering among schoolchildren and students.
An exciting project with real added value for the education of the future!

Successful appearance at the Dritev Congress in Baden-Baden.
On Wednesday and Thursday, 12 and 13 June 2024, it was that time again: APL experts from the e-mobility sector took an active part in the Dritev Congress in Baden-Baden. There, they networked with other industry experts, attended over 50 specialist presentations and used the excellent platform to engage in intensive dialogue about the latest innovations, developments and challenges in drive technology. The aspect of CO₂ neutrality and sustainability was constantly present.
Visitors also had the opportunity to talk to our experts directly at our stand and ask questions about specific drive development topics and our service portfolio.
Dritev was not only an opportunity for us to familiarise ourselves with exciting innovations in the field of drivetrains and transmissions, but also to expand and discuss our industry knowledge.
We are already looking forward to the next opportunity to present our expertise and experience to the industry.

The annual celebration of the Science and Technology (NwT) teacher training programme at KIT took place on 10 June 2024.
The aim of the NwT school subject is to represent technology and engineering in the general secondary schools in Baden-Württemberg in an independent subject and thus complete the STEM field – which is important in today’s technology-driven world not only in terms of career orientation, but also to provide a basic general technical education. KIT is one of four universities in Baden-Württemberg where prospective teachers can study NwT.
The APL and KIT are working together on a NwT project at the interface between engineering and school practice, which aims to arouse interest in NwT and the engineering sciences among students and schoolchildren through the topic of “Antriebe der Zukunft” with a fuel cell model vehicle and test bench. The project is funded by the NwT study commission to the tune of €40,000.
In 2024, a very special event is just around the corner: the city of Landau is celebrating the 750th anniversary of the granting of its town charter. As a company headquartered in Landau, we are proud to be part of this important celebration and to actively support the town festival.
APL – development partner and driving force in the region since 1989.
As a company that is deeply rooted in the region, we see it as our duty to actively contribute to shaping and promoting the community. The celebration of the 750th anniversary of Landau’s town charter offers a wonderful opportunity to show our solidarity with the town and its people.
The anniversary celebrations will begin with a special highlight: the anniversary ceremony on 30 May 2024, which will form the festive prelude to the celebratory weekend in Landau’s city centre. Citizens, guests and visitors will come together to celebrate the proud moment when the city was granted its charter. The highlight of the weekend will be the parade on 2 June 2024. This parade will impressively showcase Landau’s cultural diversity and rich history.
We are proud to be part of these great festivities and to make our contribution to the 750th anniversary of Landau’s town charter. This festival is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the history and community of our town and to come together. We would like to thank everyone involved and look forward to an unforgettable anniversary celebration. Let’s celebrate our town of Landau together!
Our APL team is currently at the Automotive Engineering Exposition. You can visit us at our stand at the Pacifico Yokohama Convention Centre until 24 May. The trade fair in Yokohama primarily brings together experts from the automotive industry to present the latest technologies and developments.
Our stand will be characterised by two special highlights: a model of the APL headquarters in Landau and the presentation of our Torque Wheel Dynamometer (TWDM).
To give our visitors an impressive picture of the size and capacity of our headquarters, we have created a detailed model of the APL site in Landau. This model provides an insight into our extensive facilities and demonstrates our commitment to innovation and progressive development.
The TWDM, a development and test environment for testing ADAS and AD functions, will be at the centre of our trade fair presence, creating a unique test environment for mapping the entire vehicle-in-the-loop driving system.
On Wednesday, 16 May 2024, the time had finally come: the APL team took part in the ‘Firmenlauf Südpfalz’ with great enthusiasm. We were not only represented on site in Landau, but also virtually from Wolfsburg, Bietigheim-Bissingen and Fellbach.
With an impressive number of 262 runners, we took on the 5.3 km course through the city of Landau around the old exhibition centre. Together with a total of 6,633 participants from over 280 teams, we took to the starting line ready to give our best.
Our joint effort paid off: We managed to secure an excellent third place in the ‘Largest Team’ category!
After the sweat-inducing run, we continued on to the after-run party. Here we were able to enjoy the evening in a relaxed atmosphere, accompanied by refreshing drinks and good music. It was the perfect end to a day that not only offered sporting challenges, but also the opportunity to grow together as a team and have fun together.
The Südpfalz 2024 company run was a complete success for us and an unforgettable experience. We are proud of our team’s performance and are already looking forward to the next run.
Many thanks to all participants and organisers – this day would not have been possible without you!
After being founded in February 2021, we were finally able to move into our own office in March 2024 after working in a rented office for more than three years. We will strive to bring even more benefits to our customers in Japan and contribute to their business.

Milestone for the APL: Since June, the newly built trailer station at the Landau location and a first hydrogen trailer from Westfalen AG have ensured the hydrogen supply and thus the testing of fuel cell drives. This enables uninterrupted operations and strong scalability – depending on customer requirements.
It was also a special day for the project team. The team was there live when the trailer was connected to the APL hydrogen network. Alexander Neber, project manager for hydrogen supply at APL: “I am proud of how we as a team here at the Landau location successfully set up this infrastructure measure in such a short time. Many colleagues from APL and Westfalen AG worked together and achieved this milestone through their commitment and specialist expertise. We are pleased about a scalable and reliable supply that lays the foundation for our hydrogen activities so that we can contribute to the development of future drives together with our customers.”
It is planned that two trailers will supply the test benches with hydrogen in the future – but in principle there is space for up to four trailers at the trailer station. Around 3.5 million m³ of hydrogen will flow to the test benches annually through the APL hydrogen network. There, the fuel cell drives are subjected to a long-term test as part of their development and put through their paces, or rather consumption values and system performance.
“We are very pleased that we can support APL with hydrogen and thus further promote the development of environmentally friendly technologies in the field of mobility. What’s also particularly nice is that in this collaboration, two medium-sized companies meet on an equal footing and show how sustainable progress can be shaped together,” explains Björn Bredlo, customer advisor for specialty gases at Westfalen.
With the hydrogen trailer, APL is not only setting the course for the decarbonization of the mobility sector and an energy source of the future, but can also continue to optimally serve its customers and respond to their wishes.
With the merger, we are strengthening our range of expertise and resources and increasing performance across all development areas, especially for you as a customer. The future APL will continue to invest in pioneering new technologies and at the same time ensure the necessary further development of classic drives for you.
We are already looking forward to intensified cooperation!
